MCDONNELL DOUGLAS F-4C PHANTOM II – The sight of an F-4…any F-4, is a reminder that I had the privilege of working on a magnificent fighting machine. While on active duty in the Air Force, I worked on the weapons systems of the F-4C, F-4D, and F-4E…and I had the “Phantom bites” on my back to prove it. I’m guessing that the Phantom would not stand much of a chance against today’s jet fighter aircraft in a dogfight but back in it’s day, the F-4 held its own against faster and more manuverable fighters.
