006 – DeKalb-Peachtree Airport Jets March 30, 2018

This is the beginning of what I plan to be a three-week road trip, which will culminate in a week at Sun ‘n Fun. First stop is Atlanta to visit my folks. At age 64, I am tremendously blessed to still have both of my parents around. Not only alive, but, all things considered, in relatively decent shape, physically AND mentally. I never stop counting my blessings, and I try to make a point of visiting them each month.

While in Atlanta, I try to get out to DeKalb-Peachtree Airport (PDK), one of the busiest general aviation airports in the country.  It also happens to be a very good airport for photography. There is a great viewing area, complete with raised “stadium-style” seating, which works very well in the afternoon.  I spent about 4 1/2 hours on Good Friday, and was pleasantly surprised by the volume of traffic. Between about 1pm and 5:30, I photographed over 50 bizjets, not at all shabby for 4 1/2 hours.  I photographed another 20+ cabin-class turboprops, including three military Dornier DO-328s.

So, without further adieu, here is a good sample of Good Friday’s traffic:

I was pleasantly surprised to see not one, but two CIRRUS SF50s at PDK. The first was N547DH, MSN 0039,CIRRUS SF50, registered to CIRRUS DESIGN CORP.  No sooner did this one taxi out, than it was followed out by sister ship N379JM, MSN 0038. Since they are in sequential MSN order, I’m wondering if they are demonstrators that somehow might wind up at Sun ‘n Fun…

Got to sit in one of the Cirrus jets last year at Hilton Head Concours d’Elegance and Classic Air show. Pretty cool. Also – since I’ve eaten at Waffle House quite frequently over the years, they can give me a ride in their jet as a thank you. Seems logical to me!
